Working from home

WFH has become the new norm for many since the start of the pandemic, and whilst there is likely to be a shift back it is inevitable that most will be splitting their working hours between the office and at home. The key to its success is a balance between the setup (software, tools), environment (having a dedicated work space at home), and understanding and adhering to the boundaries of work (ensuring staff don’t feel obliged to work out of hours, i.e. responding to non-urgent emails at night or the weekend). Whilst missing the morning commute may be a welcome break, it is also important that you continue your old routines, replacing the commute with a walk to a park for example. Mental health is a key part of successful home working.

In addition, many are not aware of the expenses that they can claim for working from home. These can range from an allowance for costs associated with the internet, heating, electric, and mileage if the journey is for business other than commuting.
